Countdown to the 9th annual Hawaii Kai Dog Walk - it's only two weeks away! If you have not already pre-registered for the June 2nd dog walk, please be advised that pre-registration is now closed. But you can still register on the morning of the walk. And, you can still get a free dog walk shirt and/or goodie bag WHILE SUPPLIES LAST when you register on June 2nd! But it's best to come early if you are not pre-registered. The walk-in registration tables open at 6:30am and the walk starts at 7:30am. It will save time if you fill out a registration form before you come and bring it with you that morning. Get your Dog Walk registration form here! Please read our April newsletter for all the dog walk details as well as other doggie news.
When you come to the Dog Walk, please consider bringing a gift for dogs who need a helping hand – those in shelters, foster homes, and/or living with houseless families. Our collection effort at last year’s dog walk was a huge success, and YOU, the dog walk participants, asked us to do it again!
WISH LIST: Items needed include dog food for puppies, adults and senior dogs (dry and canned, unopened and unexpired), towels, sheets, blankets, dog beds, toys, and grooming supplies. A special request this year is geriatric supplies for senior dogs who are in foster homes or whose owners are getting a helping hand from one of our animal welfare organizations. Soft bedding is especially imporant for senior dogs. In addition to "real" dog beds, bedding can be made from blankets, comforters and large pillows. Products made for human incontinence, and even baby diapers, can be used for senior dogs who don't have good contol and may not have unlimited access to the outdoors. Lifting harnesses are also needed. Dry cat food is always appreciated for our cat caretaker friends.
Thanks to our generous dog walk sponsors, we'll have a door prize drawing for dog walk participants who bring a contribution to our dog food/supplies drive. Drop off your gifts at our Collection Station at the event and fill out a door prize entry form. You can also enter the drawing by making a cash donation to any one of the animal welfare organizations who will be present at the Dog Walk with their own exhibits.
On our Hawaii Kai Dog Park page, you'll find the City's dog park rules and regulations, dog park tips and etiquette, and other useful information. The page is still under development, so please send us your questions to help us provide further information that will assist you and other park users. CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! We are always looking for "Park Rangers" to work in the Hawaii Kai Dog Park. We also have other volunteer opportunities such as weeding at the park or helping with the annual Hawaii Kai Dog walk in June. Please email us if you are interested in any of our volunteer opportunities. We invite you to sign up for our mailing and/or email list to receive future newsletters and announcements. Send your name, contact info and your dogs' names to info@hui-ilio.org. If you would like to support Hui Ilio's mission, please go to our "contact us" page to make a donation or to volunteer.
